-As reported in the Murrysville Star newspaper, the Franklin Regional School District has again posted high scores on the PA System of School Assessment test.

The 2006-07 test results show that 86 percent of Franklin Regional students either are advanced or proficient in he categories of reading, writing and math.

Superintendent Emery D'Arcangelo was pleased with the results but said it was unfair to gauge the success of students from one test. "Sometimes we have to focus on educating well-rounded students," he said. This includes pushing for achievement in art and athletics as well as in the classroom.

Director of Instructional Services, Shelley Shaneyfelt, said the inclusion of those subjects in the district's curriculum helps students score better on tests. The results of the test show that the district is moving in the right direction toward preparing students with basic skills needed.

"Performing on a test is about the ability to problem solve and think," said Shaneyfelt. Teachers don't dedicate specific time to preparing for the test, they incorporate information throughout the year. "We encourage it day in and day out," she said.
